Regulation 2: Permits - 2021 Amendments (Under Development)

Learn about the Air District's development process for amendments to Regulation 2: Permits, which applies to all regulated sources of air pollution that are required to obtain an air permit from the Air District.

Find out about the status of the rule development process. Information on hearings, workshops, and other events is provided below. Supporting documents and materials will be posted shortly.

Air District staff is currently evaluating potential amendments to specific rules within Regulation 2: Permits that pertain to new and modified sources of air pollution. These rules require permit applicants to apply for and demonstrate compliance with various emissions and exposure requirements to protect Bay Area air quality. In response to concerns regarding localized differences in air quality, the Air District seeks to amend relevant portions of permitting rules to help ensure communities that are overburdened by poor air quality and health vulnerabilities are further protected from sources of air pollution.

The Air District will hold a virtual public workshop via Zoom on Wednesday, May 12 from 6-8 PM to present and discuss draft concepts to amend Regulation 2. The Air District has released a Workshop Notice and a Concept Paper and supporting documents:

Written comments on the concepts discussed in the Concept Paper will be accepted through Friday, May 28, 2021, at 5:00 PM. Written comments on these materials may be submitted to:
