The Air District is issuing a Spare the Air Alert for smog for Tuesday, September 21. Smoke from Northern California wildfires is expected to also impact the region creating hazy and smoky skies.

Particulate pollution from the fires increased late Saturday, with high levels throughout much of the Bay Area Sunday morning. Particulate pollution levels are expected to remain elevated through today and may not ease until Monday.

The  Air District has received a $298,114 grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to enhance air quality monitoring in the Bay Area. The Air District is partnering with Communities for a Better Environment to implement the project funded by this grant in East Oakland, a densely populated community faced with a high air pollution burden.
