Localized air quality impacts may occur as Marathon Refinery in Martinez idles operations.

Spare the Air Status

Air District inspectors are on-site to monitor any potential emissions at the facility and to advise local officials of air quality conditions. The Marathon Refinery has air quality monitoring systems in place, including ground-level monitors around the perimeter of the facility, continuous emissions monitors, and flare monitors. During a controlled shutdown, a refinery may vent emissions directly to the flares to burn off excess gas.
