The Air District has organized a conference entitled, Climate Forward Bay Area: A Leadership Forum, that will be held on October 13 and 14 at the Mission Bay Conference Center in San Francisco. Technology, government, NGO and industry leaders are invited to register and participate in this forum by sharing ideas and approaches to reducing local greenhouse gases while maintaining the Bay Area's economic viability.

The Air District announced today that the California Air Resources Board has voted to formally include Bayview Hunters Point/Southeast San Francisco in the state’s Community Air Protection Program, also known as AB 617. This key move directs state funds and resources to a vibrant, historically significant and culturally rich Bay Area community.

Twenty three shipping companies participated in the Protecting Blue Whales & Blue Skies vessel speed reduction program in 2022, contributing to cleaner air, safer whales, and a quieter ocean. The Air District will cancel the Board of Directors Executive Committee meeting on Wednesday, March 18, at 9:30 AM. The meeting is canceled due to the shelter in place order in San Francisco and other Bay Area counties to reduce the spread of the Novel Coronavirus, or Covid-19.

The Air District is issuing a Spare the Air Alert for smoke tomorrow, Monday, October 28, for the entire region. Currently, smoke from the Kincade Fire and other local fires is mostly being pushed over the Pacific Ocean due to strong winds or is aloft over the region – localized impacts closest to the fire continue. However, winds are expected to shift to the northwest starting Monday afternoon and smoke is expected to impact the entire Bay Area, especially the North Bay, San Francisco and the East Bay.

As part of this initiative, the Air District Board authorized up to $1.3 million of upgrades in public schools in Richmond, North Richmond, San Pablo, and Tara Hills. An additional $1.7 million will be used to expand air filtration upgrades in schools in Bayview-Hunters Point in San Francisco, and $1 million will be allocated to the Air District’s Home Air Filtration program.
