The Air District is seeking applicants for a voluntary position on its Advisory Council. The Advisory Council advises and consults with the Air District’s Board of Directors on issues related to air pollution emissions control and the environment.

The Air District is extending an air quality advisory due to smoke from the fire at Schnitzer Steel in West Oakland. Smoke from the fire is expected to continue to impact parts of Alameda and Contra Costa Counties.

The Air District is issuing a Spare the Air Alert for smog for Sunday, September 5, in addition to the air quality advisory for smoke that is in place through Monday, September 6. Wildfire smoke combined with high inland temperatures and vehicle exhaust are expected to cause unhealthy smog, or ozone, accumulation in the Bay Area. Smoke from Northern California wildfires is expected to continue to impact the region creating hazy and smoky skies. 

The Air District is issuing a Spare the Air Alert for smog for Tuesday, September 21. Wildfire smoke combined with high inland temperatures and vehicle exhaust are expected to cause unhealthy smog, or ozone, accumulation in the Bay Area. Smoke from Northern California wildfires is expected to also impact the region creating hazy and smoky skies. 

The Air District is issuing a Spare the Air Alert for smog for Saturday, October 2. Wildfire smoke combined with hot inland temperatures and vehicle exhaust are expected to cause unhealthy smog, or ozone, accumulation in the Bay Area. Smoke from Southern California wildfires is expected to continue to impact the region, creating hazy and smoky skies.   

The Air District is extending the Spare the Air Alert for smog through Sunday, October 3. Wildfire smoke combined with hot inland temperatures and vehicle exhaust are expected to cause unhealthy smog, or ozone, accumulation in the Bay Area. Smoke from Southern California wildfires is expected to continue to impact the region, creating hazy and smoky skies.

The Air District is issuing the second Spare the Air Alert of 2022 for smog for Tuesday, June 21. Air quality is forecast to be unhealthy. Very hot inland temperatures, along with motor vehicle exhaust, will create elevated concentrations of ozone, or smog.

The Air District is issuing the third Spare the Air Alert of 2022 for smog for Tuesday, August 16. The Bay Area will also continue to have smoke impacts from the Six Rivers Lightning Complex Fire in Humboldt and Trinity counties. Air quality is forecast to be unhealthy tomorrow, Tuesday, August 16. The combination of wildfire smoke with hot inland temperatures and vehicle exhaust is expected to cause unhealthy smog, or ozone, accumulation in the Bay Area. Smoke from Northern California wildfires is expected to continue to impact the region creating hazy and smoky skies.   

The Air District is issuing the fourth Spare the Air Alert of 2022 for smog for Saturday, September 3. Air quality is forecast to be unhealthy. A strong high-pressure system leading to triple-digit temperatures, combined with light winds and vehicle exhaust, is expected to cause unhealthy smog, or ozone, accumulation in the Bay Area. 

The Air District is issuing the seventh Spare the Air Alert for smog (and the 11th overall this year) on Thursday, October 19. Air quality is forecast to be unhealthy tomorrow. High pressure over the region is expected to produce light offshore winds and hot temperatures across the Bay Area. These conditions, combined with motor vehicle exhaust, will produce unhealthy ozone levels.

The Air District is issuing the sixth Spare the Air Alert for smog on Wednesday, August 30. Air quality is forecast to be unhealthy. High pressure over the region will continue to produce clear skies, light winds and high inland temperatures across the Bay Area. These conditions, combined with motor vehicle exhaust, will produce unhealthy ozone levels. Smoke impacts from the fires near the California and Oregon border may also contribute to the formation of smog tomorrow.

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory due to wildfire smoke from Canada and Alaska in the Bay Area for Sunday, June 22. Smoke from various wildfires in western Canada and in Alaska is expected to impact air quality in parts of the Bay Area on Sunday. Conditions can change rapidly and the amount and location of smoke at ground level is hard to predict. The public can check for real-time smoke pollution levels in their local area with the U.S. EPA’s Fire and Smoke Map. Smoky, hazy skies may be visible, the smell of smoke is possible and air quality may become unhealthy on Sunday. 

The Air District is lifting an air quality advisory for the Bay Area due to wildfire smoke that was originally scheduled to last through today, Monday, July 14. Over the weekend, smoke from the Butler and Green wildfires had been moving down the Sacramento Valley and impacting air quality in portions of the Bay Area. However, as of Monday morning, the Bay Area is experiencing strong onshore winds, and smoke has remained mostly outside of the region. Air quality has been in the Good Air Quality Index category. Moderate onshore winds are expected to continue into Tuesday, keeping the smoke outside of the Bay Area. As the week progresses, these onshore winds will turn southerly in northern California, and this also is expected to keep the smoke from moving towards our region.

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory due to wildfire smoke from the Gifford Fire in the Bay Area for today, August 12. Smoke from the Gifford Fire in Central California is expected to move over the Bay Area on Tuesday. Conditions can change rapidly and the amount and location of smoke at ground level is hard to predict. The public can check for real-time smoke pollution levels in their local area with the U.S. EPA’s Fire and Smoke Map. Smoky, hazy skies may be visible, and the smell of smoke is possible, especially at higher elevations,  on Tuesday.

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory for Friday, September 25, due to possible wildfire smoke impacts in the North and East Bay. There is no Spare the Air Alert in effect and air quality is not expected to be unhealthy.

Today the Air District's Board of Directors unanimously adopted Regulation 11-18, Reduction of Risk from Air Toxic Emissions at Existing Facilities, considered to be the most health-protective toxic air pollution risk control measure in the nation.

The Air  District is issuing an air quality advisory for wildfire smoke for tomorrow, Thursday, August 12. Northerly winds are expected to bring smoke from the Northern California and Southern Oregon wildfires into the Bay Area. Smoke is expected to be mostly aloft with intermittent periods of smoke mixing to the surface, particularly at higher elevation locations in the North and East Bay regions.  Air quality is not expected to exceed the federal health standard and therefore, no Spare the Air Alert is in effect.
