The Air District is extending the Spare the Air Alert for wildfire smoke through Monday, September 14. This will be the 26th, 27th, and 28th consecutive Spare the Air Alert called. Smoke from the many fires throughout California, Oregon, and Washington is continuing to heavily impact the Bay Area and is forecast to produce unhealthy air quality in the region through Monday.

The Air District and partners in an initiative to cut air pollution and protect endangered whales announced results from the 2019 program and recognized the 15 shipping companies that participated, reducing speeds to 10 knots or less in the San Francisco Bay Area and the Santa Barbara Channel region.

The Air District has organized a conference entitled, Climate Forward Bay Area: A Leadership Forum, that will be held on October 13 and 14 at the Mission Bay Conference Center in San Francisco. Technology, government, NGO and industry leaders are invited to register and participate in this forum by sharing ideas and approaches to reducing local greenhouse gases while maintaining the Bay Area's economic viability.

On July 15, 2020, the Air District’s Board of Directors will hold a public hearing to consider approval of Emissions Statement Certification for the 1997, 2008 and 2015 8-hour Ozone National Ambient Air Quality Standards. The public comment period is now open and will close on Monday, July 6, 2020.

The Air District is announcing the availability of $20 million dollars to fund equipment replacement and supportive infrastructure projects for the Proposition 1B Goods Movement Program. Funds will be used to assist owners of diesel-fueled equipment that moves freight in California’s major trade corridors. Applications are due by January 15, 2021.

The Air District is hosting a series of open houses to discuss the agency’s four new and amended draft petroleum refinery emissions reduction rules. Open houses will be held in Martinez on Sept, 15, Benicia on Sept. 17, and Richmond on Sept. 28. The public comment period for the rules and amendments closes on Friday, Oct. 2, 2015.

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory for Wednesday, July 15, due to smoke from the Mineral Fire that started Monday evening in Fresno County. Smoke from the fire is expected to impact the Bay Area starting tomorrow morning when winds are predicted to shift, bringing smoke into the South Bay and moving north later Wednesday. Smoke will likely remain aloft, resulting in smoky, hazy skies but ground-level air quality is not expected to be impacted.
