The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory through Monday due to wildfires that began overnight throughout the greater Bay Area. Numerous lightning strikes have sparked wildfires across the region. Air quality may deteriorate in areas near or downwind of the fires, but PM2.5 is not expected to exceed the national 24-hour standard.

The Air District is extending an air quality advisory for wildfire smoke through Monday, September 6. Smoke from wildfires in Northern California is expected to continue to cause hazy and smoky skies across the Bay Area through Monday. Air quality is expected to generally be in the moderate range on the Air Quality Index. Higher concentrations of smoke may intermittently mix to the surface at times, but pollution levels are not expected to exceed federal health standards and no Spare the Air is in effect. 

Air quality is an important consideration for schools when planning student activities, especially when the region is being impacted by wildfire smoke. The Air District is announcing the launch of a web tool that provides searchable information for all the notices of violation, or NOVs, that the agency has issued within the past five years. This new web tool allows the public to access enforcement information concerning NOVs issued to facilities across the Bay Area.

The Air District has fined Chemtrade $1,150,000 for air quality violations at Chemtrade’s sulfuric acid manufacturing plant in Richmond. The penalty resolves seven notices of violation issued to Chemtrade for violations that occurred at its Richmond facility.

The Air District is lifting an air quality advisory for wildfire smoke that was originally scheduled to last through tomorrow, Wednesday, August 27.
