The Bay Area Commuter Benefits Program has been signed into law by Governor Edmund G. Brown, Jr. Senate Bill 1128, which passed the state legislature without any opposition, authorizes the Air District and MTC to jointly continue the Bay Area Commuter Benefits Program, a program that requires employers with 50 or more full-time employees in the Bay Area to offer commuter benefits to their employees.

The Air District is extending an air quality advisory for wildfire smoke through Thursday, July 20. Smoke from the Flat Fire in southwestern Oregon continues to be transported into the Bay Area today and into the early evening. Smoky, hazy skies may be visible across the Bay Area and the smell of smoke is possible at higher elevations, especially in the East Bay, North Bay and Santa Clara Valley regions. Pollutant levels are not expected to exceed the national 24-hour health standard. A Spare the Air Alert is not in effect.

Winds will be light near the fires which will allow some of the smoke to drop south to Windsor, Santa Rosa and potentially northern Napa Valley. Air quality in the upper North Bay will be moderate with some hourly readings in the unhealthy for sensitive groups range on the Air Quality Index scale. For the rest of the Bay Area, air quality is expected to be in the good to moderate range for the rest of the week.

Due to active wildfires and changing wind patterns, air quality throughout the Bay Area could be impacted for many days to come. Outside of the active fire areas, air quality will be variable and unpredictable.
