Spare the Air Alert in effect. Wood burning is banned. Burn bans can occur year-round for wildfires. Smoke from wildfires throughout the Bay Area is impacting air quality.  

The Air District's Board of Directors approved amendments to Regulation 6, Rule 3: Wood-Burning Devices and Regulation 5: Open Burning that will provide stronger public health protections and support wildfire prevention efforts through improved use of prescribed burns across the region.

The Air District is hosting a series of open houses to present potential new control measures and strategies that may be included in the 2016 Clean Air Plan/Regional Climate Protection Strategy, and proposed revisions to Regulation 2, Rule 5, New Source Review of Toxic Air Contaminants.

The Air District's Board of Directors unanimously adopted strong new provisions that will significantly improve the agency’s wood burning regulation designed to further safeguard public health against the hazards of fine particle pollution. The changes to the Air District’s wood burning regulation tighten exemptions and requirements from the original rule which was adopted in July 2008.

The Air District is holding an open house in Oakland on Tuesday, February 9, to present and get public input on potential new control measures and strategies that may be included in the 2016 Clean Air Plan/Regional Climate Protection Strategy. The meeting will also offer an opportunity for the public to learn about proposed revisions to the Air District’s New Source Review of Toxic Air Contaminants rule.

The Air District has launched a new online civic engagement tool, Open Air Forum, which offers the public a new opportunity to interact with the Air District and provide feedback on specific Air District topics.

The Air District is holding the first open house in Redwood City this Thursday to present and get public input on potential new control measures and strategies that may be included in the 2016 Clean Air Plan/Regional Climate Protection Strategy. The meeting will also offer an opportunity for the public to learn about proposed revisions to the Air District’s New Source Review of Toxic Air Contaminants rule. 

The Air District is holding an open house in Dublin/Pleasanton on Monday, February 8, to present and get public input on potential new control measures and strategies that may be included in the 2016 Clean Air Plan/Regional Climate Protection Strategy. The meeting will also offer an opportunity for the public to learn about proposed revisions to the Air District’s New Source Review of Toxic Air Contaminants rule. 

The Light Duty Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program, a statewide program funding electric vehicle infrastructure, is now open. 

The Air District is amending Regulation 6, Rule 3 to further reduce local and regional wintertime fine particulates and visible emissions from wood-burning devices used as a source of primary or supplemental heat or for ambiance. Public comments on the draft staff report and rule must be received by close of business Monday, August 31, 2015.

The Air District is hosting a series of open houses to discuss the agency’s four new and amended draft petroleum refinery emissions reduction rules. Open houses will be held in Martinez on Sept, 15, Benicia on Sept. 17, and Richmond on Sept. 28. The public comment period for the rules and amendments closes on Friday, Oct. 2, 2015.

The Air District will host an in-person open house on Thursday, August 1, 2024, from 1 – 3 PM. at the Air District’s San Francisco headquarters at 375 Beale Street. The open house will feature informal presentations and opportunities for discussion on the agency’s draft Strategic Plan, which outlines the Air District's roadmap for achieving its mission, setting priorities, and securing resources over the next five years. 

The deadline to apply to the Air District’s Clean HEET Program has been extended to September 30, 2025. Clean HEET grants are currently available to help offset the cost of switching from wood-burning or pellet-burning stoves, fireplace inserts, or open-hearth fireplaces to an electric heat pump. A decommission-only option is also available for homeowners to remove existing open-hearth fireplaces or older, uncertified wood-burning stoves or inserts.

The Air District’s Clean HEET Program is now accepting applications for grants that can help to offset the cost of switching from wood-burning or pellet-burning stoves, fireplace inserts, or open-hearth fireplaces to an electric heat pump. A decommission-only option is also available for homeowners to remove existing open-hearth fireplaces or older, uncertified wood-burning stoves or inserts. Switching to an electric heat pump helps improve air quality in communities by replacing polluting wood-burning devices with cleaner heating options.
