Air District statement on Biden administration’s climate policies

"President Biden has taken his bold, but necessary, first steps in tackling the accelerating climate crisis. Through a series of executive orders in his first days on the job, the President signaled an about-face from the previous administration’s policies on climate. To begin with, fulfilling a key campaign promise, the United States rejoined the Paris Climate Accord. Biden then launched a ‘whole-of-government’ approach, focusing the full attention and capacity of the federal government and weaving ambitious climate policies through a dense fabric of federal agencies and initiatives to address the greatest ‘existential threat of our time.’ 

Now Congress must do their part to pass the Biden Administration’s ambitious climate plan. While costly, we can choose to pay now or pay dearly later. Congress has run out of excuses and public patience. We now have an enormous opportunity to change our current trajectory and embrace clean air, a clean energy economy and the environmental justice that has eluded so many for so long. Congress needs to move on from gridlock and put their full support behind these efforts as if our future depends on it, because it all too clearly does."
