The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory for wildfire smoke for Friday, July 19. Smoke from fires in Northern California is expected to impact the Bay Area on Friday. The public can check for real-time smoke pollution levels in their local area with the U.S. EPA’s Fire and Smoke Map.

The Air District invites Bay Area residents to four workshops where they can learn about and provide input on three draft regulations that would reduce toxic health risks, cap facility greenhouse gases, and cap the carbon intensity per barrel of crude oil processed at refineries.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District will ask Bay Area employers to sign the Cut the Commute Pledge to extend remote work options for employees at a press conference in San Jose on Monday, July 13 at 11:30 a.m. A continuation of remote work can help maintain the Bay Area’s air quality progress even after shelter-in-place orders are eased.

The Air District’s Clean Heating Efficiently with Electric Technology, or Clean HEET, Program will begin accepting applications for grants that can help to offset the cost of switching from a wood-burning stove or fireplace insert to an electric heat pump. The program is designed to improve air quality in communities by replacing polluting wood-burning heating devices with cleaner heating options.
