The Air District is extending an air quality advisory for wildfire smoke in the Napa Valley through tomorrow, Thursday, June 2. Smoke from the Old Fire in Napa County is expected to impact the Napa Valley. Isolated pockets of elevated air pollution levels are possible near the fire, however, pollution levels are not expected to exceed the national 24-hour standard. A Spare the Air Alert is not in effect. Smoky, hazy skies may be visible and the smell of smoke may be present in the Napa Valley through Thursday. 

The Air District has awarded $1.18 million grant to the San Ramon Valley Unified School District to replace seven older school buses, five compressed natural gas buses and two diesel buses with zero-emission electric buses and the charging infrastructure to support them. The project will also support the installation of eight DC fast chargers and related infrastructure.

The Air District is extending an air quality advisory for the Bay Area due to wildfire smoke from fires in northern Sacramento Valley through Monday, July 14. Smoke from the Butler and Green wildfires is still moving down the Sacramento Valley and is expected to continue to impact air quality in portions of the Bay Area on Sunday and Monday. Areas that are expected to be most impacted will be parts of the North Bay and East Bay and higher elevation locations. Conditions can change rapidly and the amount and location of smoke at ground level is hard to predict. The public can check for real-time smoke pollution levels in their local area with the U.S. EPA’s Fire and Smoke Map.  Smoky, hazy skies may be visible, the smell of smoke is possible and air quality may become unhealthy at times on Sunday and Monday. 

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory for the Bay Area due to wildfire smoke from fires in northern Sacramento Valley for today, Thursday, July 10, and Friday, July 11. Smoke from the Butler and Green wildfires has been moving down the Sacramento Valley and is expected to impact air quality in the eastern portion of the Bay Area down to Santa Clara Valley on Thursday and Friday. Conditions can change rapidly and the amount and location of smoke at ground level is hard to predict. The public can check for real-time smoke pollution levels in their local area with the U.S. EPA’s Fire and Smoke Map. Smoky, hazy skies may be visible, the smell of smoke is possible and air quality may become unhealthy at times on Thursday and Friday.   

The Air District is advising Bay Area residents that smoke from agricultural burns in the Northern Sacramento Valley will cause elevated levels of fine particulate pollution in the region today. 

The Air District, Santa Clara Valley Medical Center and Public Health today discussed the urgent need for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to reevaluate and update the federal air pollution standard for fine particulate pollution, also known as PM 2.5.

The Air District is extending an air quality advisory for smoke for the far South Bay, including Morgan Hill, San Martin and Gilroy, through Wednesday, July 8. On Tuesday, smoke from the Crews Fire east of Gilroy continues to impact air quality in southern Santa Clara Valley. 

The Air District is issuing the winter season’s third Spare the Air Alert for tomorrow, Tuesday, December 22, which bans burning wood, manufactured fire logs or any other solid fuel, both indoors and outdoors. Smoke from increased wood burning is expected to cause air quality to be unhealthy with the heaviest impacts in the Santa Clara Valley due to cold overnight temperatures and light winds.

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory due to smoke from the Crystal Fire in Napa County for today, Wednesday, June 5. Localized smoke impacts are possible near Angwin and may impact the Napa Valley from St. Helena to Calistoga. We will be closely monitoring air quality for smoke impacts from this incident.

The Air District is extending the Spare the Air Alert through Monday, December 26, which bans burning wood, manufactured fire logs or any other solid fuel, both indoors and outdoors. Cold overnight temperatures, stagnant air, patchy dense fog, and a high-pressure system over the region is allowing wood smoke pollution to continue to build up over the region. Concurrently, offshore winds transporting additional pollution from the Central Valley is continuing to cause unhealthy air quality in the Bay Area.

Smoke from the Butler and Green wildfires is moving down the Sacramento Valley and is expected to continue to impact air quality in portions of the Bay Area on Saturday. Conditions can change rapidly and the amount and location of smoke at ground level is hard to predict. The public can check for real-time smoke pollution levels in their local area with the U.S. EPA’s Fire and Smoke Map. Smoky, hazy skies may be visible, the smell of smoke is possible and air quality may become unhealthy at times on Saturday. 

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory for wildfire smoke for Wednesday, August 18. Smoke from the Northern California wildfires is expected to again impact the Bay Area on Wednesday. Onshore winds are expected to shift to strong north/northeast winds in the Sacramento Valley, pushing smoke into the Bay Area. Smoke impacts are forecast to be more widespread than last week. Air quality is expected to be in the mid to high-moderate range and not exceed the federal health standard, so no Spare the Air Alert is in effect. 

The Air District is extending an air quality advisory for wildfire smoke through Thursday, July 20. Smoke from the Flat Fire in southwestern Oregon continues to be transported into the Bay Area today and into the early evening. Smoky, hazy skies may be visible across the Bay Area and the smell of smoke is possible at higher elevations, especially in the East Bay, North Bay and Santa Clara Valley regions. Pollutant levels are not expected to exceed the national 24-hour health standard. A Spare the Air Alert is not in effect.

The Air District is issuing the winter season’s first Spare the Air Alert for tomorrow, Friday, December 15, which bans burning wood, manufactured fire logs or any other solid fuel, both indoors and outdoors. Smoke from increased wood burning combined with light winds and low overnight temperatures is expected to cause unhealthy air quality. High pressure over northern California will act like a lid, trapping smoke at ground level. Offshore winds may also transport air pollution from the Central Valley into the Bay Area. 

The Air District is extending the Spare the Air Alert through Sunday, December 17, which bans burning wood, manufactured fire logs or any other solid fuel, both indoors and outdoors. Smoke from wood burning combined with light winds and low overnight temperatures is expected to continue causing air quality to be unhealthy in the Bay Area. A high-pressure system in place over Northern California will act like a lid, trapping smoke at ground level, and offshore winds are forecast to transport air pollution from the Central Valley into the Bay Area.

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory for wildfire smoke for this afternoon and early evening, Wednesday, July 19. Smoke from the Flat Fire in southwestern Oregon is forecast to be transported into the Bay Area this afternoon and early evening. Smoky, hazy skies may be visible across the Bay Area and the smell of smoke is possible at higher elevations, especially in the East Bay, North Bay and Santa Clara Valley regions. Pollutant levels are not expected to exceed the national 24-hour health standard. A Spare the Air Alert is not in effect.

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory for wildfire smoke for today, Tuesday, May 31, and tomorrow, Wednesday, June 1. Smoke from the Old Fire in Napa County is expected to impact the Napa Valley. Isolated pockets of elevated air pollution levels are possible near the fire; however, pollution levels are not expected to exceed the national 24-hour standard. A Spare the Air Alert is not in effect and air quality is not expected to be unhealthy. Smoky, hazy skies may be visible and the smell of smoke may be present in the North Bay through Wednesday. 

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory for smoke for the upper portion of the North Bay tomorrow, Friday, November 1, through Sunday. Winds will be light near the fires which will allow some of the smoke to drop south to Windsor, Santa Rosa and potentially northern Napa Valley. Air quality in the upper North Bay will be moderate with some hourly readings in the unhealthy for sensitive groups range on the Air Quality Index scale. For the rest of the Bay Area, air quality is expected to be in the good to moderate range for the rest of the week.

The Air District is issuing a Spare the Air Alert for today, Sunday, December 8, which bans burning wood, manufactured fire logs or any other solid fuel, both indoors and outdoors. Regional wood burning and easterly winds transporting air pollution into the Bay Area from the Central Valley have contributed to high overnight concentrations of fine particle pollution and unhealthy air quality. Although light northerly winds will bring some improvement later in the afternoon and evening, parts of the Bay Area will still experience unhealthy air quality throughout the day. Breezier northeasterly winds will bring more substantial improvement in air quality for Monday.  

The Air District is lifting an air quality advisory for the Bay Area due to wildfire smoke that was originally scheduled to last through today, Monday, July 14. Over the weekend, smoke from the Butler and Green wildfires had been moving down the Sacramento Valley and impacting air quality in portions of the Bay Area. However, as of Monday morning, the Bay Area is experiencing strong onshore winds, and smoke has remained mostly outside of the region. Air quality has been in the Good Air Quality Index category. Moderate onshore winds are expected to continue into Tuesday, keeping the smoke outside of the Bay Area. As the week progresses, these onshore winds will turn southerly in northern California, and this also is expected to keep the smoke from moving towards our region.
