The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory for wildfire smoke for tomorrow, Friday, September 9. Smoke from wildfires in California and Oregon is expected to impact the Bay Area through Friday, but pollutant levels are not expected to exceed the national 24-hour health standard. A Spare the Air Alert is not in effect on Friday. Smoky, hazy skies may be visible and the smell of smoke may be present. 

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory for smoke for the Bay Area tomorrow, Tuesday, November 5, 2019.  Northerly winds near the Ranch Fire in Tehama County south of Redding will allow some smoke to move toward the Bay Area. The smoke is expected to cause hazy skies and potentially elevated hourly air quality readings for fine particulates tomorrow, but air quality is not expected to exceed the federal health standard.

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory due to wildfire smoke from Canadian wildfires in the Bay Area for Monday, June 2 and Tuesday, June 3. Smoke from various Canadian wildfires in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba is expected to impact air quality in parts of the Bay Area on Monday and Tuesday. Conditions can change rapidly and the amount and location of smoke at ground level is hard to predict. The public can check for real-time smoke pollution levels in their local area with the U.S. EPA's Fire and Smoke Map. Smoky, hazy skies may be visible, the smell of smoke is possible and air quality may become unhealthy on Monday and Tuesday.

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory for the Bay Area due to wildfire smoke from fires in northern Sacramento Valley for today, Thursday, July 10, and Friday, July 11. Smoke from the Butler and Green wildfires has been moving down the Sacramento Valley and is expected to impact air quality in the eastern portion of the Bay Area down to Santa Clara Valley on Thursday and Friday. Conditions can change rapidly and the amount and location of smoke at ground level is hard to predict. The public can check for real-time smoke pollution levels in their local area with the U.S. EPA’s Fire and Smoke Map. Smoky, hazy skies may be visible, the smell of smoke is possible and air quality may become unhealthy at times on Thursday and Friday.   

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory through Monday due to wildfires that began overnight throughout the greater Bay Area. Numerous lightning strikes have sparked wildfires across the region. Air quality may deteriorate in areas near or downwind of the fires, but PM2.5 is not expected to exceed the national 24-hour standard.

The Air District is extending the Spare the Air Alert for smog and the air quality advisory for smoke through Tuesday. Wildfire smoke combined with high inland temperatures and vehicle exhaust are expected to cause unhealthy smog, or ozone, accumulation in the Bay Area. Smoke from Northern California wildfires is expected to continue to impact the region creating hazy and smoky skies.

The Air District is issuing a Spare the Air Alert for smog on Wednesday, July 10.  Air quality is forecast to be unhealthy. Very high inland temperatures in the 100’s and weak afternoon sea breeze, along with motor vehicle exhaust, will create elevated concentrations of ozone, or smog.

The Air District has fined Chemtrade $1,150,000 for air quality violations at Chemtrade’s sulfuric acid manufacturing plant in Richmond. The penalty resolves seven notices of violation issued to Chemtrade for violations that occurred at its Richmond facility.

High pressure over northern California is expected to produce offshore winds and hot inland temperatures in the upper-90s to low-100s. High inland temperatures, along with motor vehicle exhaust, will create elevated concentrations of ozone, or smog.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District is issuing the second Spare the Air Alert for smog on Friday, July 14, 2023. Air quality is forecast to be unhealthy tomorrow, Friday, July 14. Hot inland temperatures, along with motor vehicle exhaust, will create elevated concentrations of ozone, or smog.

The Air District is issuing the fourth Spare the Air Alert for smog on Friday, July 21, 2023. Air quality is expected to be unhealthy. Hot inland temperatures, along with motor vehicle exhaust, will create elevated concentrations of ozone, or smog. Continued smoke impacts from the Flat Fire in Oregon may also contribute to the formation of smog tomorrow.

The Air District is issuing its first Spare the Air Alert of the year for ozone for Friday, May 30. Air quality is forecast to be unhealthy. High inland temperatures, along with motor vehicle exhaust, will create elevated concentrations of ozone, or smog.

The Air District is lifting an air quality advisory for wildfire smoke that was originally scheduled to last through tomorrow, Wednesday, August 27.

The Air District is issuing its second Spare the Air Alert of the year for ozone for Tuesday, September 23.
