The Air District and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission have launched an updated and improved portal for registering their Commuter Benefits Program benefits that will help companies as employees continue to return to the worksite. 

The Air District will be holding a virtual webinar on April 10 from 6 -7 PM to provide an overview of the proposed budget for fiscal year (FY) 2025-2026 and proposed fee regulation amendments.

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory beginning Friday, August 3, through the weekend in the Bay Area. The Bay Area will likely experience smoke impacts from the Mendocino Complex Fire and other wildfires. 

The Air District is announcing that the sixth annual California Clean Air Day will take place on October 4. The event is a statewide day of action where millions of Californians participate in cleaning the air.

The Air District and Aclima are announcing a cutting-edge air quality data program that will map air pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions in all nine counties of the Bay Area — covering more than 5,000 square miles.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District is advising Bay Area residents that although the forecast indicates the region will not exceed the federal health standard for smog, conditions remain elevated for fire danger and potential smoke impacts. 

The Air District is extending the Spare the Air Alert for wildfire smoke and ozone, or smog, for Tuesday, September 8, and for wildfire smoke on Wednesday. This will be the 22nd and 23rd consecutive Spare the Air Alert called.

The Air District is announcing that it will bring an abatement order to correct air quality violations for faulty emissions monitoring at Chemtrade’s Richmond facility in front of the agency’s independent Hearing Board on April 12 at 1:30 PM. 

As part of its efforts to reduce air pollution in the Bay Area, the Air District has allocated more than $90 million towards grant programs that will provide funding in phases from July 2016 through June 2017 for mobile source projects.

The program will open at 10AM on August 26, 2016, on a first-come, first-served basis for homeowners and landlords to replace their wood burning device. Funding will be prioritized for low-income residents, residents located in areas highly affected by wood smoke, and households exempt from burn bans due to a wood-burning device being the sole source of heat. Starting November 1, 2016, anyone whose sole source of heat is a wood-burning device must use an EPA-certified or pellet-fueled device that is registered with the Air District to qualify for an exemption.

The Air District is issuing another Spare the Air Alert for smoke tomorrow, Tuesday, October 29, for the entire region. Smoke from the Kincade Fire is expected to move south into the greater Bay Area today. Air quality will likely be impacted from the Kincade Fire through mid-day tomorrow. There may also be smoke from local fires, like the Suisun Marsh fire, that could further impact air quality tomorrow. Later tomorrow, offshore winds will help move smoke from the Kincade Fire back over the Pacific Ocean, but local fires could still contribute to unhealthy air quality.

The Air District's Board of Directors approved allocating $4 million in Community Air Protection Incentives funding to support home and school air filtration programs in Bay Area communities at their June 4 meeting. As part of this initiative, the Air District Board authorized up to $1.3 million of upgrades in public schools in Richmond, North Richmond, San Pablo, and Tara Hills. An additional $1.7 million will be used to expand air filtration upgrades in schools in Bayview-Hunters Point in San Francisco, and $1 million will be allocated to the Air District’s Home Air Filtration program.

The 2018 Climate Protection Grant Program will award up to $4.5 million to Bay Area public agencies to accelerate local implementation of greenhouse gas reductions in two program areas: (1) reducing GHGs from existing buildings and (2) fostering innovative strategies (in multiple sectors).

The Air  District will accept proposals for the Community Health Protection Grant Program beginning April 29 for up to $50,000 from community groups, neighborhood associations and other community-based, local non-profit organizations in designated Bay Area neighborhoods most impacted by air pollution.

The Air District's Board of Directors approved amendments to Regulation 6, Rule 3: Wood-Burning Devices and Regulation 5: Open Burning that will provide stronger public health protections and support wildfire prevention efforts through improved use of prescribed burns across the region.

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory for smoke in parts of the Bay Area through Thursday, October 18. Parts of the Bay Area will experience air quality impacts as light winds bring smoke from wildfires in southern Oregon into the region. 

The Air District is extending the air quality advisory through Saturday due to smoke from the Mineral Fire in Fresno County. Smoke will likely remain aloft, resulting in smoky and hazy skies, but PM2.5 is not expected to exceed the national 24-hour standard.
