The Air District has opened the grant application period for the People’s Air Grant Program, a funding opportunity designed to support local stakeholders working to improve air quality and public health in communities disproportionately burdened by air pollution. The grant application period opens March 12 and will remain open through May 29, 2026.  

The Air District is hosting a series of open houses to present potential new control measures and strategies that may be included in the 2016 Clean Air Plan/Regional Climate Protection Strategy, and proposed revisions to Regulation 2, Rule 5, New Source Review of Toxic Air Contaminants.

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory for smoke tomorrow through Monday, September 3, for the entire the region. The Bay Area again may experience smoke impacts from regional wildfires. 

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory for smoke in parts of the Bay Area through Thursday, October 18. Parts of the Bay Area will experience air quality impacts as light winds bring smoke from wildfires in southern Oregon into the region. 

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District is holding an open house in Richmond this Thursday to present and get public input on potential new control measures and strategies that may be included in the 2016 Clean Air Plan/Regional Climate Protection Strategy.

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory for wildfire smoke in eastern Contra Costa County for today and tomorrow, Tuesday, July 12, and Wednesday, July 13. Smoke from the Marsh Fire is expected to impact the eastern Contra Costa cities of Pittsburgh, Antioch, Oakley and Brentwood. Onshore winds during the daytime are expected to disperse smoke, but as winds die down overnight localized pollution levels may rise between 10 PM and 9 AM. Pollutant levels are not expected to exceed the national 24-hour health standard. A Spare the Air Alert is not in effect and air quality is expected to be in the moderate range overall. 

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory due to smoke from the Somersville brush fire in Antioch. Smoke from this brush fire is expected to impact air quality in eastern Contra Costa County on Wednesday evening. Conditions can change rapidly and the amount and location of smoke at ground level is hard to predict. The public can check for real-time smoke pollution levels in their local area with the U.S. EPA’s Fire and Smoke Map. The Air District will continue to monitor conditions to see if impacts will continue on Thursday. Smoky, hazy skies may be visible, the smell of smoke is possible and air quality may become unhealthy as of Wednesday evening.

The Air District is seeking applicants for a voluntary position on its Hearing Board. The Hearing Board is a quasi-judicial body that rules on particular cases that affect only individual facilities.

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory for wildfire smoke for tomorrow, Thursday, August 5, and Friday, August 6. Smoke from the McFarland, Monument, and River Complex fires are expected to impact the North Bay and East Bay, but the smoke is aloft and is not expected to cause unhealthy air quality. 

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory for wildfire smoke for Friday and Saturday, August 27 and 28. Smoke from wildfires across California is predicted to impact the Bay Area on Friday and Saturday. Lofted smoke is expected to cause hazy and smoky skies, but pollution levels are not expected to exceed federal health standards and no Spare the Air Alert is in effect. Air quality is expected to be in the moderate range on the Air Quality Index. 

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory for wildfire smoke for Thursday, September 2, and Friday, September 3. Smoke from wildfires in northern California is predicted to cause hazy and smoky skies across the Bay Area on Thursday and Friday. Pollution levels are not expected to exceed federal health standards and no Spare the Air Alert is in effect. However, smoke may mix to the surface at times causing intermittent and isolated pockets of elevated pollution levels. Air quality is expected to be in the good to moderate range on the Air Quality Index.

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory for wildfire smoke for Friday, September 24 and Saturday, September 25. Smoke from fires in Southern and Central California is expected to impact the Bay Area through Saturday, producing smoky and hazy skies. Pollution levels are not expected to exceed federal health standards and no Spare the Air Alert is in effect. 

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory for wildfire smoke for today, Tuesday, May 31, and tomorrow, Wednesday, June 1. Smoke from the Old Fire in Napa County is expected to impact the Napa Valley. Isolated pockets of elevated air pollution levels are possible near the fire; however, pollution levels are not expected to exceed the national 24-hour standard. A Spare the Air Alert is not in effect and air quality is not expected to be unhealthy. Smoky, hazy skies may be visible and the smell of smoke may be present in the North Bay through Wednesday. 

The Air District invites the public to attend a scoping meeting at the Air District’s Metro Center to provide comment on the potential environmental impacts that should be evaluated in the draft environmental impact report being prepared for the 2016 Clean Air Plan and Regional Climate Protection Strategy.

The Air District has made the draft 2017 Clean Air Plan, Spare the Air, Cool the Climate, available online, on Open Air Forum for comment through March 9.

Today, the Air District is issuing its fifth Spare the Air Alert for smog this year in addition to the ongoing Air Quality Advisory for wildfire smoke.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District is issuing a Spare the Air Alert for wildfire smoke for Sunday, June 16, and Monday, June 17. Air quality is forecast to be unhealthy today and tomorrow due to smoke from the Point Fire in northern Sonoma County.

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory due to smoke for Friday, October 25 and Saturday, October 26. Smoke from prescribed fires near Pescadero may impact air quality along the Peninsula – south of San Francisco and north of San Jose. Conditions can change rapidly and the amount and location of smoke at ground level is hard to predict. 

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory due to wildfire smoke from wildfires in the western U.S and Canada for the rest of the day Thursday, August 8, and for Friday, August 9. An inversion layer combined with local pollution and residual smoke from fires in the western U.S. and Canada is impacting air quality in the Bay Area. As onshore winds increase this afternoon and Friday, air quality is expected to be Good to Moderate on the Air Quality Index.

The Air District is announcing that Bimbo Bakeries, USA Inc., has agreed to pay $162,000 to settle air quality violations that occurred at its facility in South San Francisco. The penalty resolves two notices of violation issued to Bimbo Bakeries, USA Inc.
