The Air District is extending a Spare the Air Alert for smog through Thursday, July 11. Air quality is forecast to be unhealthy again. Very high inland temperatures in the 100’s and weak afternoon sea breeze, along with motor vehicle exhaust, will continue to create elevated concentrations of ozone, or smog.

The  Air District is issuing a Health Advisory & Spare the Air Alert through Thursday, October 19, due to continued smoke impacts from wildfires in the region. Unhealthy air quality from the wildfires continues to plague the eastern Sonoma, Napa and Solano counties. Due to active wildfires and changing wind patterns, air quality throughout the Bay Area could be impacted for many days to come.

Local pollution and residual smoke from fires in the western U.S. and Canada continues to impact air quality in the Bay Area, causing hazy and smoky skies. Air quality is expected to be Good to Moderate on the Air Quality Index.

The Air District is issuing a Spare the Air Alert for smog on Monday, September 30. Air quality is forecast to be unhealthy. High pressure over northern California is expected to produce offshore winds and hot inland temperatures in the upper-90s to low-100s. High inland temperatures, along with motor vehicle exhaust, will create elevated concentrations of ozone, or smog.

The Air District is extending an air quality advisory through Sunday, October 18, due to possible wildfire smoke impacts. There is no Spare the Air Alert in effect and air quality is not expected to be unhealthy. Smoke from the August Complex and Creek Fires are expected to drift into the Bay Area, causing smoky and hazy skies through Sunday.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District is holding an open house in Santa Rosa this Wednesday to present and get public input on potential new control measures and strategies that may be included in the 2016 Clean Air Plan/Regional Climate Protection Strategy.

The Air District invites written comments on new provisions related to hydrogen sulfide monitoring and quality assurance procedures in revised draft fenceline air monitoring plans for the five Bay Area refineries. Comments must be received by 5 PM Pacific Time on April 20, 2023.

An inversion layer combined with local pollution and residual smoke from fires in the western U.S. and Canada continues to impact air quality in the Bay Area, causing hazy and smoky skies. Hot inland temperatures, along with motor vehicle exhaust, will create elevated concentrations of ozone, or smog. Continued smoke impacts from the Flat Fire in Oregon may also contribute to the formation of smog tomorrow.

The Air District is issuing the fourth Spare the Air Alert for smog on Friday, July 21, 2023. Air quality is expected to be unhealthy. Hot inland temperatures, along with motor vehicle exhaust, will create elevated concentrations of ozone, or smog. Continued smoke impacts from the Flat Fire in Oregon may also contribute to the formation of smog tomorrow.

The Air District is extending the Spare the Air Alert for smog through Wednesday, September 7. Air quality is forecast to be unhealthy. High-pressure over the region will continue to produce clear skies, light winds and very hot temperatures across the Bay Area. These conditions, combined with motor vehicle exhaust, will produce unhealthy ozone levels.

Today, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District is issuing the first Spare the Air Alert for smog in 2020. Air quality is forecast to be unhealthy tomorrow, Memorial Day, Monday, May 25. Light winds combined with triple-digit inland temperatures and vehicle exhaust are expected to cause unhealthy smog, or ozone, accumulation in the Bay Area.

The Air District is extending an air quality advisory for wildfire smoke through Tuesday, August 24. Smoke from wildfires across California is predicted to continue to impact the Bay Area on Tuesday. Lofted smoke is expected to cause hazy and smoky skies but pollution levels are not expected to exceed federal health standards and no Spare the Air Alert is in effect. Air quality is expected to be in the good to moderate range on the Air Quality Index. 

The Air District is issuing the first Spare the Air Alert of 2021 for smog on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31. Air quality is forecast to be unhealthy. Light winds and hot temperatures, along with motor vehicle exhaust, will create elevated concentrations of ozone, or smog.
