The Air District and partners in an initiative to cut air pollution and protect whales announced the launch of the 2018 incentive program, which will start July 1 and end November 15, 2018, with voluntary vessel speed reduction zones in the Santa Barbara Channel region and San Francisco Bay area.

The Air District is extending the air quality advisory through Tuesday due to smoke from the Mineral Fire in Fresno County and the Hog Fire in Lassen County. Smoke will likely remain aloft resulting in smoky and hazy skies, but PM2.5 is not expected to exceed the national 24-hour standard.

The Air District will host a public learning session on Tuesday, October 22, virtually via Zoom, regarding adopted rules (“Building Appliance Rules”) impacting nitrogen oxide, or NOx, emissions from natural gas-fired water heating appliances. Members of the public are invited to attend, learn, and ask questions about these rules.

The Air District will cancel the Board of Directors Executive Committee meeting on Wednesday, March 18, at 9:30 AM. The meeting is canceled due to the shelter in place order in San Francisco and other Bay Area counties to reduce the spread of the Novel Coronavirus, or Covid-19.

The Air District is announcing the availability of $10 million dollars to fund equipment replacement and supportive infrastructure projects for the Proposition 1B Goods Movement Program. Funds will be used to assist owners of diesel-fueled equipment that moves freight in California’s major trade corridors. Applications are due by October 28, 2021.

Today, the Air District Board of Directors voted to retain Sharon Landers as the interim executive officer beginning Monday, May 23, for a nine-month contract. Ms. Landers will serve as the Air District’s interim executive officer while the Air District Board begins its search for a candidate to permanently fill the role.

On Wednesday, December 16, the Air District’s Board of Directors will consider three petroleum refining rules and amendments for adoption. The Air District originally planned to bring six rules for consideration, but due to the large number of public comments received, extra time is required to consider changes to the three remaining rules.

The Air District is extending a Spare the Air Alert for wildfire smoke through Tuesday, September 1, which bans burning wood, manufactured fire logs, or any other solid fuel, both indoors and outdoors. Wildfire smoke from the numerous fires inside and outside the Bay Area will continue to cause elevated levels of smoke pollution.

The Air District is issuing an air quality advisory due to smoke from the Crystal Fire in Napa County for today, Wednesday, June 5. Localized smoke impacts are possible near Angwin and may impact the Napa Valley from St. Helena to Calistoga. We will be closely monitoring air quality for smoke impacts from this incident.

The Bay Area Air District today announced $4,822,770 in funding to SAFETRANS Transportation Inc. to deploy electric school buses serving special education students across Santa Clara County. The grant will support the purchase of 14 zero-emission buses and 11 charging stations, helping to electrify transportation services for some of the region's most vulnerable students.

The Air District announced the recipients of the 2016 James Cary Smith Community Grant Program awards. The Air District used available funding to back 11 community-based partnership projects within the nine-county Bay Area region for a total of $261,274. The projects will increase awareness and engagement about air quality issues and initiate ways to reduce air pollution.

The Air District is hosting a series of open houses to discuss the agency’s four new and amended draft petroleum refinery emissions reduction rules. The Air District, California Air Resources Board and San Francisco Department of Emergency Management announced today the launch of the state’s first Clean Air Center in the Bayview Hunters Point neighborhood in San Francisco. In the coming weeks, more than 300 Clean Air Centers will be available throughout the Bay Area, when air quality is poor due to wildfires.

The Air District has reached a settlement with Tesoro Refining & Marketing Company that will significantly enhance air monitoring data transparency, providing more information about air pollutants around its refinery in unincorporated Contra Costa County, near Martinez. The agreement requires Tesoro to take new data access and community engagement actions beyond those required by regulation or permit.

The Air District has awarded $1.18 million grant to the San Ramon Valley Unified School District to replace seven older school buses, five compressed natural gas buses and two diesel buses with zero-emission electric buses and the charging infrastructure to support them. The project will also support the installation of eight DC fast chargers and related infrastructure.
