Smoke from Northern California wildfires is expected to continue to impact the region creating hazy and smoky skies.

    The Air District is extending an air quality advisory for wildfire smoke through Monday, September 6. Air quality is expected to generally be in the moderate range on the Air Quality Index. Higher concentrations of smoke may intermittently mix to the surface at times, but pollution levels are not expected to exceed federal health standards and no Spare the Air is in effect.

Regional wood burning and easterly winds transporting air pollution into the Bay Area from the Central Valley have contributed to high overnight concentrations of fine particle pollution and unhealthy air quality. Although light northerly winds will bring some improvement later in the afternoon and evening, parts of the Bay Area will still experience unhealthy air quality throughout the day. Breezier northeasterly winds will bring more substantial improvement in air quality for Monday.

Smoke from the Kincade Fire is expected to move south into the greater Bay Area today. Air quality will likely be impacted from the Kincade Fire through mid-day tomorrow. There may also be smoke from local fires, like the Suisun Marsh fire, that could further impact air quality tomorrow. Later tomorrow, offshore winds will help move smoke from the Kincade Fire back over the Pacific Ocean, but local fires could still contribute to unhealthy air quality.
